Bridle leather has been made in England since ancient times for use in horse tack. It is hard, thick, and has a lustrous finish like pottery.

The most distinctive feature of this leather is the white powder called bloom.

Bridle leather is made by steeping in a tannin bath for several months to increase its robustness, and then impregnating the leather with wax and oil components.
This bloom is a solidification of the internal oil components on the surface, which enhances its water resistance.
